Nigeria's military says its offensive against insurgents in the country's restive northeast has killed at least 14 suspected Islamic extremists and three soldiers. Brig. Gen. Chris Olukolade, a military spokesman, said in a statement that one soldier also was missing as "forces have been engaging a large number of heavily armed terrorists" for the last two days. Capt. Ikedichi Iweha told journalists Sunday that soldiers attacked the home in the northern city of Kano after a car fled a military checkpoint. Iweha said soldiers found weapons and a car loaded with explosives inside the home, which was later demolished.Iweha said soldiers killed 14 suspected extremists, while offering no details about soldiers being injured in the assault.
