Boko Haram extremists abducted more than 200 teenage girls from their school in Nigeria’s remote northeast. President Goodluck Jonathan says 20,000 troops have been deployed as part of efforts to find and free them and in the broader campaign against an insurgency that has become the greatest threat to Nigerian and regional security. There were around 300 of them - schoolgirls who had come to a remote village secondary school to take their final exams. They were rounded up by men in uniform carrying guns, loaded into trucks and driven off. Around 50 girls managed to escape. The remainder are in captivity, and their abductors say they won't be released until their demands have been met. In all, more than 260 of the girls are still missing.[Finish Article ]

"They give us just AK47s to go into the bush to fight Boko Haram," the soldier said. "Our equipment doesn't work and they give us just two magazines to go into the bush." Two magazines contain approximately 60 bullets.  The soldier said that many in the Nigerian army have also been discontented by delays in receiving their salaries, sometimes waiting weeks or months to be paid. [Finish Article ]
